The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has alleged that it was denied access to major public venues in Abuja ahead of its planned national convention, scheduled for April 14, 2026. According to the party’s spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, the party was unable to secure approval to use both Eagle Square and the Moshood Abiola National Stadium despite formal requests submitted to relevant authorities.
The party wrote to the office of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, seeking permission to use Eagle Square, but claimed no approval was granted even after the request was acknowledged. The ADC further alleged that its request to use facilities within the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, including the velodrome, was also turned down.
The party also claimed that several private event centers in Abuja refused to host the convention, reportedly due to concerns over possible government pressure. Despite the setback, the ADC said it would proceed with its convention as planned but at a new venue, the Rainbow Event Centre in Abuja.
However, Minister Wike has denied the allegations, maintaining that due process is followed in the allocation of public facilities. The ADC is moving forward with its convention, and the incident has sparked reactions from various stakeholders .
