Operatives of the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ikoyi, have launched an investigation into a suspected fake lawyer, John Anoruo, over allegations of possession and use of a forged Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) seal.
Anoruo, who reportedly runs a legal and educational consultancy in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, was arrested on Monday, April 20, 2026, by EFCC operatives following intelligence-led inquiries.
According to the commission, the case began after Anoruo submitted a petition dated September 22, 2025, on behalf of clients against the management of Global West Vessel Specialist Nigeria Limited. However, investigators later discovered that both the petition and a subsequent withdrawal letter dated March 5, 2026, carried a purported NBA seal suspected to be forged.
The EFCC said the discovery prompted further scrutiny, leading to Anoruo’s arrest and questioning.
During interrogation, the 55-year-old suspect reportedly admitted to obtaining the seal from an undisclosed business centre in Lagos. He also claimed to have earned a Law degree in 2018 from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, through evening programmes, but acknowledged that he did not attend the Nigerian Law School.
The anti-graft agency stated that the suspect will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations
