Suspected gunmen attacked a community in Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State, leaving one person dead and several others injured. The incident occurred on Thursday night in Barbaji village, Jajaye Ward, when four armed men on motorcycles stormed the community around 9:00 p.m. and opened fire indiscriminately.
The attackers targeted a local vigilante member, Alasan Yellow, shooting him at close range in front of his shop. Another person was also shot while trying to intervene. The vigilante group, supported by security operatives, evacuated the injured to nearby medical facilities.
Alhaji Haruna Barhaya, the Commander of the Rogo vigilante group, confirmed the incident, stating that four victims are receiving treatment for varying degrees of injuries. One of the victims was referred to a hospital in Gwarzo for advanced treatment.
Security measures have been heightened in the area, with a joint patrol team deployed to prevent further attacks. Authorities are urging residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators.
The attack is part of a growing concern over insecurity in Nigeria, with 750 deaths and 171 attacks recorded in recent times.
