Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has sworn in Hon. Murtala Sule Garo as the new Deputy Governor of the state. The ceremony took place at the Coronation Hall of the Government House, Kano, at 11:00 am.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by top government officials, political stakeholders, traditional rulers, party loyalists, and members of the public. Governor Yusuf had invited stakeholders from across the state to attend the event, describing it as a historic occasion.
Garo’s appointment follows the resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Aminu Gwarzo, who left the position after Governor Yusuf defected from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Gwarzo had remained with Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, Yusuf’s former political godfather, after the defection.
The Kano State House of Assembly had confirmed Garo’s nomination as Deputy Governor on Monday, following a thorough screening process. The Assembly’s ad hoc committee had reviewed Garo’s credentials and recommended his confirmation.
Garo, a former Commissioner for Local Government Affairs in Kano State, is expected to work closely with Governor Yusuf to advance the development and prosperity of the state. In a congratulatory message, SA media to the late President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, Abdulazzez Abdulazzez, wished Garo success in his new role.
The swearing-in ceremony marks a significant development in the state’s political leadership, with Garo’s appointment expected to boost the administration’s efforts to deliver good governance and development to the people of Kano.
The event is seen as a testament to Governor Yusuf’s commitment to due process and democratic governance, as he follows constitutional procedures to fill the vacant deputy governor position.
Garo’s confirmation has been hailed as a positive step towards stability and continuity in the state’s government, with stakeholders expressing confidence in his ability to support Governor Yusuf’s administration.
