The President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has ordered the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate a bogus agency that is alleged to have been created without the approval of the Presidency.
In a statement issued by the President’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the President directed the ICPC to complete the investigation and submit a report to him within 30 days.
According to the statement, the directive followed the discovery that the “Presidential Forum on Investment and Economic Advisory Council for Foreign Countries” (PFIPC) is a fake body that was never established.
The government said the person under suspicion, Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, has been parading himself as the Director-General of the agency and also claiming that the President appointed him.
The statement added that the investigation will focus on allegations of forging appointment letters and other fake government documents, as well as using the President’s name to seek meetings with government agencies and diplomatic engagements.
The ICPC will also investigate allegations of opening CBN bank accounts and obtaining approvals from other government agencies by using documents suspected to be forged.
“The integrity of the Presidency and federal government institutions must be protected from fraudsters, forgers and those who use the government’s name unlawfully,” the statement said.
The government further stated that anyone found to be involved in the matter by the investigation will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
