Gombe State’s All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially endorsed Dr. Jamilu Shaiyaku Gwamna as its consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 general election. This decision was reached at an enlarged stakeholders’ meeting presided over by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, with the aim of deepening internal cohesion, minimizing friction, and projecting a united front ahead of the elections.
The meeting, which brought together governorship, National Assembly, and state assembly aspirants, members of the State Working Committee, party elders, and other critical stakeholders, also ratified consensus candidates for the state’s three senatorial districts, six House of Representatives seats, and 24 state House of Assembly constituencies ¹ ².
Dr. Gwamna, a seasoned politician and accomplished technocrat, has been praised for his deep grassroots appeal and capacity to secure victory for the APC in 2027. Governor Yahaya described him as a capable and experienced figure with the political strength required to lead the party to victory.
The Pantamiyya Movement, a powerful political group in Gombe State, has also declared its support for Dr. Gwamna’s governorship ambition, citing his growing acceptability within the APC and among grassroots voters.
Over 1,500 Gombe indigenes working at the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) have also endorsed Dr. Gwamna, crediting him with securing employment opportunities for them during his tenure at KEDCO.
Dr. Gwamna has expressed appreciation to the party leadership and stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to build on the foundation laid by the current administration and take Gombe State to greater heights.
The APC’s decision to adopt a consensus approach in selecting candidates is aimed at strengthening unity and avoiding internal conflicts, party officials said.
The party has also announced its senatorial candidates, including Mohammed Ahmadu Deba for Gombe Central, Jerry Damara for Gombe South, and Governor Inuwa Yahaya for Gombe North.
Other adopted candidates include Usman Bello Kumo for Akko Federal Constituency, Inuwa Garba for Yamaltu/Deba, and Ali Isa JC for Balanga/Billiri.
The APC’s consensus candidate, Dr. Gwamna, is expected to lead the party to victory in the 2027 governorship election, with the support of various stakeholders and groups.
