Grief has engulfed Yabo Local Government Area of Sokoto State following the death of nine young men who were reportedly killed in a road accident while traveling to Lagos in search of livelihood.
The victims, all indigenes of Yabo, were said to be on their way to Lagos to seek daily bread and better opportunities when the tragic incident occurred.
Confirming the sad development, the member representing Yabo Constituency in the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Hon. Abubakar Shehu Shamaki Yabo, described the incident as a devastating loss to the community.
In a condolence statement issued in Sokoto on Saturday, the lawmaker said, โIt is with a heavy heart that I received the sad news of the tragic road accident that claimed the lives of nine young men from Yabo.โ
According to him, the deceased left home full of hope and aspirations, with dreams of building a better future for themselves and their families. โTheir passing at a time they were seeking to better their livelihood is heartbreaking,โ he added.
Hon. Shamaki noted that the tragedy was not only a loss to the bereaved families but also to Yabo and the entire Shagari/Yabo Federal Constituency, as the community has been thrown into mourning.
He called on relevant authorities to intensify efforts on road safety and to create more economic opportunities for youths within the state, to reduce the risk associated with dangerous migration in search of jobs.
Meanwhile, community leaders, friends and relatives have continued to mourn the victims, praying for the repose of their souls and strength for their families to bear the irreparable loss. Authorities are yet to release further details on the exact location of the crash.
