An angry confrontation between Kano State Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) operatives and motor park operators in the Gyadi-Gyadi area of Kano escalated on Wednesday, leading a mob to set bonfires and destroy vehicles.
KAROTA agents invaded a motor park to disband what they described as illegal parks constituting a security threat and causing traffic congestion.
NURTW members resisted the move and hurled missiles at the traffic officers. In response, officers smashed parked commercial vehicles.

KAROTA Managing Director, AIG Mohammed Zarewa (retd), said the agency had issued multiple quit notices to the operators who remained adamant. Police were deployed to restore order.
The incident highlights rising tension between enforcement agencies and transport unions over illegal parks in Kano, with both property destruction and injuries recorded before security forces intervened.
