Panic spread across Panshekara communities in Kano on Monday after operatives of the Kano State Police Command arrested six people for administering unverified locally made medicine to residents without government approval.
According to a press statement issued on August 5, 2026 by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspects were intercepted on August 4 at about 9am by operatives of 52 Police Mobile Force, Chalawa.
The arrest took place at ECWA Church located behind No. 52 Police Mobile Force Base, Challawa. The suspects were found attending to a large crowd of residents who had trooped in from Panshekara communities for the outreach.
CSP Kiyawa said the group was operating under the name Brother Paul Legacy Foundation and was led by one Simon Gbaaondo, 50, of Karu in Nasarawa State. They were allegedly distributing the medicine both for free and for sale.
The police described the drugs as unverified and unauthorized, noting that the foundation did not obtain clearance from the State Government, NAFDAC, or any relevant health regulatory agency before carrying out the exercise.
In addition to the six suspects, the host who accommodated the group on the church premises was also invited by police to assist with investigations into the incident.
The matter was initially reported at the Panshekara Police Division. It has since been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department, CID, Kano for thorough investigation and possible prosecution.
In a swift reaction, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, warned individuals and organizations against conducting medical outreaches or administering drugs without authorization.
He said such activities pose serious health and security risks, especially when large crowds are involved.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the safety and well-being of residents and said it would not condone any activity that endangers public health. It urged members of the public to report any suspicious medical outreach to the nearest police station for prompt action.
