Dr Jamil Isyaku Gwamna’s tenure as Managing Director of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has been described as a period of significant institutional and financial transformation.
Under his leadership, KEDCO’s monthly revenue collection reportedly rose from about ₦634 million to nearly ₦5 billion, reflecting major improvements in revenue mobilisation, accountability and commercial operations.
Part of his blueprint was the restructuring of KEDCO’s operations into nine regional offices, aimed at bringing management and service delivery closer to customers and improving operational efficiency.
Gwamna also initiated the establishment of task forces and a Joint Task Force (JTF) as measures to combat energy theft, protect the company’s revenue and strengthen enforcement against electricity-related losses.
The reforms also included improved metering, customer and asset validation, technology deployment, data-driven management and stronger revenue-protection mechanisms.
According to his media aide, Ibrahim Sani Shawai, the KEDCO experience demonstrates Gwamna’s ability to identify institutional challenges, introduce practical reforms and achieve measurable results.
The statement said the experience remains relevant to Gwamna’s vision for Gombe State, particularly in improving revenue management, strengthening institutions, reducing waste and delivering better public services.
