Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, has joined Nigeria’s delegation to the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly currently taking place in New York, United States.
Governor Idris is participating in Nigeria’s engagements alongside Vice President Kashim Shettima, who is representing President Bola Tinubu at the global gathering. His participation was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idris.
The 81st UN General Assembly, which opened on September 8, 2026, is being held under the theme, “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All.” The gathering brings together world leaders and representatives of member states to deliberate on global challenges, including sustainable development, climate action, peace and security, human rights, technological transformation and multilateral cooperation.
According to the statement, Governor Idris is expected to participate in discussions and engagements focusing on peace, security, sustainable development and investment. His activities will include the proposed launch of the Northwest Peace, Security and Development Framework, 2026–2030, the SDG Roundtable Discussion 2026, the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting, the African-Caribbean High-Level Interactive Dialogue and the Nigeria Investment Forum.
The statement said the governor’s participation would provide an opportunity for Kebbi State to engage with global leaders, development partners, investors and international organisations to attract investment and strengthen partnerships for the state’s development. It added that the involvement of state governors and other Nigerian officials was part of efforts to deepen Nigeria’s international engagement and promote development cooperation and strategic partnerships.
