The Kano State House of Assembly is planning to take disciplinary action against the member representing Nassarawa Local Government Area, MB Aliyu, following a petition filed against him over alleged abuse of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The member representing Minjibir Local Government Area, A.A. Minjibir, presented the petition before the House, linking the allegation to a video clip showing MB Aliyu raising rabbit ears in a manner interpreted as an insult to the governor.
While presenting the petition, A.A. Minjibir said the act allegedly committed by the lawmaker is contrary to the ethics and rules of the State House of Assembly.
He stressed that the Assembly must uphold discipline among its members and ensure that the image of the legislature and the state government is not tarnished by such conduct.
Also supporting the petition, the member representing Kumbotso Local Government Area, Hon. Muddassir Zawaciki, said as the Chief Whip of the House, they will meet with MB Aliyu to hear his own side of the story.
Hon. Zawaciki noted that the Assembly will follow due process in handling the matter and give the accused lawmaker a fair hearing before any decision is taken.
The House is expected to set up a process to investigate the allegation and determine whether the actions of MB Aliyu constitute a breach of the House rules and standing orders.
If found guilty, the Assembly is expected to take appropriate action against him in line with the provisions of its rules and regulations.
