Former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Barista Mukhtar Shehu Shagari, has expressed doubts about the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) plan to transmit election results directly to the IREV (INEC Results and Voters’ Register) portal.
Shagari pointed out that Nigeria’s notorious power supply issues could hinder the process, leading to potential glitches and disruptions in transmitting results. He stated, “We know Nigeria struggles with power supply, so there could be obstacles in transmitting election results.”
Despite opposition parties backing the IREV system as a means to curb election rigging, Shagari remains skeptical. The INEC had announced plans to use the IREV portal for real-time transmission of election results to enhance transparency.
