A legal practitioner, Barrister A.A. Hikima, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, calling for an immediate, independent and transparent investigation into allegations linking two senior police officers to the alleged killing of Abubakar Idris, popularly known as Dadiyata.
In the petition dated May 8, 2026, and addressed to the Inspector General of Police at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, the lawyer urged the Nigeria Police Force to investigate allegations made in a separate petition reportedly authored by Muhammad Musa Kamarawa, a former Senior Special Assistant to ex-Bello Matawalle.
According to the petition, Kamarawa allegedly accused CSP Hussaini Gimba and CSP Hassan Gimba of involvement in the disappearance and alleged killing of Dadiyata.
Part of the petition quoted Kamarawa as alleging that the officers “threatened to kill me as they killed Dadiyata and Saminu S/Fada Gusau amongst others in my presence at Operations Yaki Kaduna.”
The lawyer described the allegations as weighty and too serious to be ignored, especially considering the long-standing mystery surrounding the disappearance of Dadiyata, who has remained missing since August 2019.
The petition stressed that if the allegations are false, a proper investigation would clear the names of the officers involved and reassure the public, but if found to be true, justice should take its full course irrespective of status or position.
Barrister Hikima further argued that the continued uncertainty surrounding Dadiyata’s disappearance has generated widespread public concern and raised questions about accountability within law enforcement institutions.
The petition therefore urged the Inspector General of Police to constitute an independent investigative panel to thoroughly examine the allegations and make its findings public.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the Nigeria Police Force or the officers mentioned in the petition regarding the allegations.
