The Director-General of Media and Publicity for the Kano State Government, Sanusi Bature, has alleged that former presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso is politically aligned with President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in an interview on ARISE News, Bature commented on the shifting political landscape within opposition parties, claiming that the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) lacks the strength to go it alone in the next election cycle.
According to Bature, party stakeholders had reportedly agreed that NNPP needed strategic partnerships to remain competitive in 2027, exploring a potential alliance with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as “Option A.”
He alleged that with Kwankwaso’s approval, steps were initiated to engage APC leadership, including a potential meeting with President Tinubu.
However, Bature claimed the meeting never occurred after Kwankwaso reportedly canceled due to a planned trip to China and did not reschedule.
He also dismissed speculation about a possible political collaboration between Kwankwaso and Labour Party presidential hopeful Peter Obi, calling the idea “strange” and questioning its viability given ideological and political differences.
“I don’t see this partnership working,” Bature said, emphasizing the challenges of sustaining such an alliance.
These remarks add to growing speculation about shifting alliances and potential coalitions ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
