A Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Ìgbìnmó Májékóbájé Ilé-Yorùbá, has launched a scathing attack on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the rising wave of terrorism, kidnappings, and insecurity across Nigeria, urging him to focus on protecting lives rather than contemplating a second term in 2027. The group’s criticism follows growing public outrage over the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State and other parts of the country.
In a statement issued by its leadership, the union argued that the continued attacks on schools, communities, and farmers suggest that criminal groups are operating with increasing confidence while citizens live in fear.
The group described the security situation as unacceptable and accused the government of failing to adequately confront the kidnapping epidemic threatening education and rural livelihoods.
The organisation further claimed that discussions about the 2027 elections should not take priority when many Nigerians remain victims of terrorism, abduction, and violent attacks. According to the group, restoring security and public confidence must be the administration’s foremost responsibility.
The criticism comes amid heightened concern over school abductions and renewed calls from civil society groups, religious leaders, and human rights organisations for stronger security measures nationwide.
Meanwhile, the Presidency has maintained that it is intensifying military and intelligence operations against terrorist groups and criminal networks across the country.
