The Kano State Hisbah Board for Northern Nigeria has banned the mobile movie download business, popularly known as “downloading,” across the entire state.
The Deputy Commander-General of Kano State Hisbah, Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen, confirmed the development on Wednesday in an audio message sent to BBC News Pidgin.
The Board said they took the decision because some people who operate the business are using it to spread pornographic videos and other materials that corrupt public morals.
According to him, Hisbah had received complaints that some operators were distributing videos that negatively influence children and young people in the state.
Dr. Aminuddeen also said the Board has deployed its officers to all 44 Local Government Areas of Kano State to ensure that the directive is enforced.
