The death of prominent Kano businessman and oil marketer, Alhaji Audu Manager, popularly called “Oil Magul,” has sparked widespread reactions after reports linked his passing to a family financial crisis.
According to a report by Northern Star Online Newspapers, the businessman went into a coma after discovering that an alleged sum of N2 billion was missing from his company’s account.
The publication alleged that two of Audu Manager’s children were accused of diverting the huge amount from the firm’s corporate account, a development that reportedly threw the business empire into turmoil.
A source close to the late businessman told Northern Star that following the discovery, Audu Manager ordered the suspension of fuel supply to other filling stations pending an internal investigation before loosing his health related issues that lead him in to trauma. He was later fly to Egypt for medical attention were he later die.
Audu Manager was widely known for owning thousands of filling stations, most of them located in cities and outskirts across Northern Nigeria. His company was one of the biggest independent oil marketing networks in the region.
The stress from the alleged fraud and its impact on his business operations was said to have deteriorated his health, eventually leading him into a coma.
Due to the severity of his condition, he was reportedly flown abroad for medical treatment via Egypt. However, he did not survive.
As of press time, the family has not issued an official statement confirming the details of the allegations.
In a swift reaction, authorities have also not commented on whether any investigation is ongoing into the alleged N2 billion fraud.
