Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has reacted to comments credited to former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Pantami, urging politicians and stakeholders to avoid what he described as “baric attacks” as the election season approaches.
2. In a statement made available to journalists, Governor Inuwa Yahaya said the period before elections should be used to engage citizens with ideas, not insults or attacks that heat up the polity. “Election is around the corner. We should stop barbaric attacks,” he said.
3. The governor, who is also the Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum, noted that political differences should not be allowed to destroy relationships or the peace that the state and the region have worked hard to build over the years.

In a pointed response, Governor Inuwa Yahaya also addressed a remark made by Prof. Pantami, saying: “Even before the white man gave birth, we have always known that a white birth is always a white birth.” He explained that the statement was a call for people to remain true to their values, identity, and principles no matter the pressure.
5. According to him, leaders have a responsibility to guide their supporters and not to mislead them with provocative language that can incite tension, especially in a diverse state like Gombe where peaceful coexistence is key.
6. Governor Inuwa stressed that democracy thrives on tolerance, mutual respect, and healthy debate. He said name-calling and personal attacks only distract from the real issues of development, security, education and healthcare that people care about.
7. “We are all stakeholders in the Nigeria project,” the governor added. “So let us conduct ourselves in a way that our children and the next generation will be proud of. Politics should unite us, not divide us.”
8. He called on political leaders, clerics, youth groups and traditional institutions to preach peace and discourage hate speech on social media and in public gatherings as campaigns draw nearer.
9. Governor Inuwa Yahaya concluded by reaffirming his administration’s commitment to good governance in Gombe and urged all actors to play politics with decorum. “Let the best ideas win, and let the people decide peacefully,” he said.
