The three-day football talent discovery and development programme initiated by the Kano State Government under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, tagged “The Game Changer,” was officially launched on Tuesday at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.
The initiative, organised by the Office of the Special Adviser on Youth and Sports Development in collaboration with Sports Without Borders and the Nigerian Football Coaches Association (Kano State Chapter), is aimed at discovering young football talents, nurturing future champions, and expanding access to football opportunities across Kano State.
The programme has attracted two international football scouts, Agboola Akanji Sodiq, Chief Scout from the United States of America, and Costicea Petre Bogdan, Chief Scout from Romania, who will assess the participating players for potential international opportunities.
Speaking during the event, the Technical Director of the programme, Abdulgafar Olademeji, disclosed that about 16 football academy teams from across the state are to participating in the three-day exercise.
He explained that the initiative is focused on grassroots football development and youth empowerment as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen football in the ancient city of Kano.
Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth and Sports Development, Alhaji Sani Musa Danja, said the decision to invite international scouts from Romania and the United States was intended to provide talented young footballers in Kano with the opportunity to showcase their abilities and professional careers on the international stage.
