The Katsina State Police Command recorded two major cases within hours: a domestic violence incident in which a 23-year-old housewife allegedly tried to slit her husbandโs throat, and a successful operation against bandits in Dandume LGA.
According to Police Spokesman DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, Jamilu Ibrahim reported at the Central Market Police Division on Monday that his wife, Sadiya Lawal, attacked him with a knife at about 5:30 a.m. while he was asleep.
Jamilu sustained a deep cut to the neck and was rushed to hospital where doctors are treating him. Police said he is responding to treatment. Detectives recovered the knife allegedly used and arrested Sadiya, who remains in custody pending investigation and prosecution.
The Command said the arrest highlights its commitment to tackling violent crime within households. Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Umar Fage, warned against domestic violence and urged couples to seek lawful, peaceful means of resolving disputes.
While detectives handled the domestic case, security operatives in Dandume repelled dozens of gunmen on motorcycles along the Kadisau-Sheme Road. A distress call alerted officers to the infiltration attempt.
The Divisional Police Officer mobilized the Violent Crimes Response Unit, VCRU, alongside the Katsina State Community Watch Corps, KSCWC. The combined team engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle.
Unable to withstand superior firepower, the attackers fled into the bush, abandoning two motorcycles and a machete which police recovered. A manhunt is ongoing to track the fleeing suspects.
CP Fage commended the bravery of officers and Community Watch Corps members. He reaffirmed the commandโs determination to sustain operations against banditry and other violent crimes across the state.
The police commissioner appealed to residents to remain vigilant and share timely, credible information with security agencies. He stressed that public cooperation is crucial to winning the fight against crime in Katsina.
